Smoking during Pregnancy May Increase Autism Risk in ChildrenSmoking during Pregnancy May Increase Autism Risk in Children
Researchers have found that mothers who smoke during their pregnancy are much more likely to have children who are born with high-functioning autism, such as Aspergers. Though they haven't found a causal relationship, they do suggest there is an association. The toxins from the cigarettes enter the blood stream and contaminate the baby's oxygen and nutrient supply. Smoking during pregnancy also has a higher risk of the mother having a stillbirth, miscarriage or early birth.
