Gene Therapy for Hearing Loss

Researchers at Emory University are experimenting with the gross of Sensory Hair Cells in Mice. The growth comes from the introduction of the gene Atoh1 to adolescent mice. The experiment shows success in the growth of the hairs, but the progress is lost during puberty and not seen in adult mice. The mature hairs have higher sensitivity then the grown hairs. The scientists are working on manipulating the gene to further the growth and success of the cells.
