New research suggests weight-loss surgery may help regulate monthly cycles of women who are obese since obese women often stop getting their periods. Not only does menstruation stop as it accompanies significant weight gain, but also stems excessive hair growth and skin problems. "The significance of this study is that it shows that abdominal obesity is an independent risk factor for sudden cardiac death, even after
accounting for factors such as diabetes, hypertension and coronary heart
disease."
