Children who were exposed to secondhand smoke prenatally might have a more
difficult time controlling their asthma than those who weren't exposed. Many
studies found that secondhand smoke may actually worsen a child's asthma
symptoms, and quite possible raise their risk of developing lung disease.
Increased exposure to tobacco smoke may impair early lung development or have
lasting effects on the activity of certain genes, research shows.
