Ghana introduces
vaccines against top child killers
Ghana is the premier African nation to commence a
new battle against pneumonia and diarrhea. Almost 3 million children under the
age of five suffer from the two diseases worldwide. Therefore these
vaccinations will help not only those children in Ghana but will also aid the inhibition
of the spread of the diseases throughout kid’s schools and homes. Accra the
capital is launching new campaigns which are set to target a two-thirds
reduction in child mortality by 2015. Most of the funding for these vaccines is
by the GAVI or Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunizations, WHO and UNICEF.
The vaccines are estimated to be given at 20 US cents for each dose.
