“Diabesity”, as they call it is becoming an issue over the United States. Diabetes caused by obesity among teens, as studies show, is very hard to control. According to the article, 1 in 5 suffered serious complications from high blood sugar simply because lack of management.  Risks include kidney failure, nerve damage, vision loss and even heart attacks. The study was conducted on 699 overweight and obese teens of which nearly four years later failed to maintain blood sugar control with metformin, which is a drug used for type 2 diabetes. Dr. Phil Zeitler of the University of Colorado says that the best way to manage diabetes is to not get it in the first place.
