Trivalent oral polio vaccine faces ban

A trivalent oral polio vaccine (TOPV), initially used to curb the widespread presence of Polio among children in India, is now on the verge of facing a ban. Experts in this particular article contend that chances of attaining a vaccine derived polio virus infection (VDPV) are significantly higher with the use of TOPV (since targets all three stains of the polio virus) as opposed to the bivalent vaccine (targets only two!) Oral polio vaccines (OPV) contain a weakened version of the polio virus, and consumption of such a vaccine activates an immune response in the body to develop antibodies to polio, ultimately, ultimately stopping spread transmission of polio to others within a certain community.
