TV Decides What We Eat

This article talks about the link between television viewing and food preference.  It is discussed how children who watch more television tend to eat more food, and much of the time the food is not healthy.  This is because children who watch a lot of television will eat unhealthy foods.  Then the children will learn to prefer these foods over healthier options.  Eventually they child will eat only unhealthy food because that is all the child is accustomed to.  However, a new study suggests that children who watch more television eat more unhealthy food simply because it is what is within reach.  This means that the study is suggesting that if children who watch a lot of television were to simply have healthy food to snack on they would snack on it.  This is also good news because it will help children to learn to prefer the taste of healthy foods.  But, television must help this come to fruition.  Commercials on television mostly advertise for junk foods.  But the study found that if there are more advertisements for healthy foods such as fruits and vegetables, the children watching will crave those foods more.  This is good because if more children eat healthier, other health concerns such as obesity and diabetes will become less of a concern.
