Type 2 Diabetes in Teens

This article discusses the many problems of type 2 diabetes in teenagers across the United States.  It shows that it is more difficult to treat teenagers suffering from type 2 diabetes than it is to treat adults with the same disease.  This is because it is much more difficult to maintain stable levels of blood sugar in teens than it is in adults.  The article also notes that this is a growing epidemic.  It is stated that in recent years, the frequency of type 2 diabetes in youth ages 10-17 have increased significantly.  This is mainly attributed to today’s sedentary lifestyle, as well as a larger market of unhealthy foods.  This brings on important concepts to consider.  We can no longer depend on hospital staff and medical researchers to develop the solutions to our modern health problems.  It is now time for Americans to adopt healthier lifestyles in order to fight off epidemics such as the growing rate of teenage type 2 diabetes.  This true because the article discussed how simply giving the teens medication had about a 50% failure rate in stabilizing their blood sugar levels.  However, even with diet and exercise blood sugar was difficult to maintain.  This is why it is important to try and create a healthy lifestyle before a disease like this affects your health.
