Omgea-3’s and Brain Health

A research study at Colombia University in New York found that when one eats more omega-3’s in their diet they are less likely to be at risk for Alzheimer’s disease.  This is because the researchers at Colombia found that omega-3’s reduce beta amyloid levels in the blood.  Beta amyloid has been linked to causing Alzheimer’s disease.  Therefore, because people whose diets consisted of more omega-3’s had lower levels of beta amyloid, it is believed that there is a correlation.  This is good news for the medical community.  Alzheimer’s disease is an awful disease which causes one to lose a lot of mental capacity because the brain slowly becomes decrepit.  This is a difficult thing to handle for both the person suffering the disease, as well as those close to said person.  Memories fade and life becomes more difficult for the patient.  It is very difficult for a child to return to their parent and have them not recognize them.  This is why this discovery is so significant.  By having a diet which it high in omega-3’s the progression of Alzheimer’s disease can be slowed or avoided.  By slowing or avoiding this dreadful disease a lot of suffering from many people can be avoided.
