Orangutans use IPads
A Miami zoo is currently experimenting, using iPads to communicate with orangutans. A pair of 8 year old twins love the iPad. They use it to play games and such. The older Orangutans showed no interest in it, but the young ones love it. The software thy use was originally designed for humans with autism. The screen displays pictures of various objects, the trainer picks an object, and the ape presses the corresponding button. Using the iPad, the apes can respond to simple questions, and express what they want or what they need. A suggestion by a someone who had done something similar with dolphins suggested that the trainers try it and it has lead to some amazing things with the apes.
