New Technology to Help Study Zebrafish Larvae
MIT has created a new technique that can analyze larvae in seconds. Zebrafish embryos, or larvae, are one of the most commonly studied animals, as they are transparent and their internal organs can be easily seen as they develop. Because they are genetically similar to us, biologists and geneticists often use zebrafish to model human diseases like cancer, or liver disease, or heart disease. The process used to be done by hand and eye, looking at them through a microscope. But this new technology will allow researchers to speed up the process greatly and increase the number of fish embryos in the study. This will allow us to learn faster and get more data with better accuracy than before.
