Color of Birds Increase Speed of Evolution

A 60 year old evolution theory has been confirmed; one that says that birds with multiple color plumage within the same population evolve into a new species faster than those with only one color form. The global study was conducted by scientists Dr. Devi Stuart-Fox and Dr. Andrew Hugall, using data collected by birdwatchers and geneticists over decades. "From this information, we are now able to understand a lot more about the processes that create biodiversity" says researcher Stuart-Fox. The next step is to test some of the explanations that have been proposed for why color polymorphism leads to this accelerated evolution.
