What is the point of pruney fingers?


I have never known exactly why our fingers get pruney when they get wet.  Well, scientists think this is an evolutionary adaptation that evolved from primates to help us grip things when they are wet.  They compare this phenomenon to the treads on tires, and how they help the tires keep traction when the roads are wet.
