Sunburn and Cancer

This article once again reinforces the fact that tanning and cancer go hand in hand.  Recent studies by the Mayo Clinic show that tanning does increase the chances of having skin cancer.  The study also showed that young white women ages 18-25 were much more likely than any other group of people to tan on a regular basis.  However, the study also showed that a large portion of young white males also suffered from the problems associated with tanning.  This may stem from a culture which is obsessed with having that sun kissed look throughout the year.  The article states that those who partake in indoor tanning increase their risk of having skin cancer by 75%.  That is an alarming rate.  These statistics have been proven time and time again, so why do people continue to tan when we know how bad it is?  This is the question which must be solved.  It is important to try and educate everyone about the dangers tanning can bring.   In addition to this we must try to change the culture of our society so that constantly tanning is not something to be proud of.  Through this combination, we can help young people realize the horrors of tanning.
