Gorillas In Our Midst- Perceptions and Vision

This is an article explaining the viral internet video about visual perception. Essentially, subjects are asked to watch two basketball teams pass a ball around, but in the middle of the video a gorilla (man in a suit, clearly) enters from camera left, beats his chest, then exits. Astonishingly, relatively few people notice his entrance, as their attention is so focused on counting how many times the basketball is passed between the white-jerseyed players (the "test"). This phenomenon is known as inattentional blindness, which plays off the idea of selective attention, or only seeing what we want to see.
