Red Wine Increases Lifespan
Researchers are now arguing that red wine can actually increase a person's lifespan. It had been found that a component of red wine, resversatol, activates an anti-aging gene that can slow down the aging process. This anti-aging gene, called SIRT1, was experiences on in mice and found that when it was activated, it increased mitochondrial activity, which controls the cell's energy and improves metabolism. Unfortunately, this study will be difficult to truly perform in humans, because the equivalent amount of red wine in mice would equal 100 glasses of red wine a day in humans. The overall goal is to create a medication with reversatol in it, to help improve lifespan.
