New Technique Could Identify Drugs That Help Fight Broad Range of Viruses

A new study out may verify a new technique in drug discovery. The study tested to see which drugs actually boosted the body's natural immunity, not just target the disease or purpose the drug was created for. Of 2,240 drugs test, 64 were found to boost the body's immunity. The article says a cancer drug called idarubicin was noteworthy in its ability to boost immunity. This drug has toxic side effects though so it would not be prescribed to someone with a cold. It is an interesting technique because it looks at fighting the disease or virus through the body's immune system instead of directly combating the disease or virus.
