Genetically engineered crops have yielded amazing
environmental and economic benefits mostly due to the crops being resistant to
weed killing chemicals such as Round-up.
Farmers are able to douse crops with Round-up to kill all neighboring
weeds. However, as this method
becomes more popular, weeds are becoming more genetically resistant against
Round-up due to the constant exposure; farmers then turn to more powerful and
dangerous chemicals to kill the weeds.
In short, engineered crops save money in the short run but may not in
the long run as costs to kill the weeds increases.
