Berries May Delay Memory Decline
In a study involving more than 16,000 women over the age of 70, it was discovered that women who ate the most berries per week were likely to have a 2.5 year advantage when it comes to the onset of memory decline symptoms. Berries contain a high level of flavonoids, which act as antioxidants. These flavonoids interact with the free radicals produced by mitochondria before they can cause damage to brain cells. Although these results are not conclusive, doctors believe that eat berries, along with exercising, doing puzzles and other mind activities, and having a social support network, can all help to prevent cognitive aging for both men and women.
