Brain Freeze Finally Figured Out

After decades of curiosity surrounding the physiological phenomenon we know as "Brain Freeze," scientists have finally put an end to the speculation. In a recent experiment, subjects where instructed to drink water from a straw placed against the roof of their mouths. When the subjects signaled discomfort, scientists were able to pinpoint a direct change in the anterior cerebral artery, a blood vessel located behind the eye. When the artery constricted, the pain disappeared. Scientists believe this sudden rush of pressure to the brain is what causes the pain of "Brain Freeze" and is a self-defense mechanism triggered by the body to ensure the brain stays at an optimal temperature. Go figure.
