Lingering Regret
It has recently been discovered that young adults and older, aging individuals should be handling their feelings of regret differently. Older individuals are better off letting go of their regrets, and younger adults hold onto those regrets, with more time to change in the future. Researchers have found that young adults that have missed an opportunity and depressed aging individuals have a similar response in the brain. What has been recently found is that the Older population is able to process those feelings and emotions more easily than young adults. Regret has been a new emotion of study, and in the future will help scientists discover ways to train emotion regulation.
