The Affect of Our Mild Winter on Mosquitoes

All over the country, this past winter has been a mild one. Here, in Minnesota, it was considered one of the nicest winters in a century. While this was nice while it lasted, studies show that this could cause a shift in the spread of mosquito-borne illnesses. This could even worsen the risk of brain infections. There is a mosquito called Culex erraticus that spreads a virus that causes equine encephalitis. Although this is a very uncommon disease, it most often is lethal. Mosquitoes that have this virus starts out by biting animals but then eventually switches to humans. This switch is now going to be hard to detect.
