Stem Cells Carry 'Suicide Pills' for Instant Death

This is an image depicting active quick-kill molecule Bax (red) located in the protein-modifying compartment of the cell, the Golgi Apparatus, where it's kept safe so it doesn't accidentally kill the cell. The cell's brain, the nucleus, is stai
Embryonic stem cells have been found to undergo apoptosis if it is for the greater good of the organism. When treated with drugs that damage the cell, the cell will "commit suicide" in a matter of 5 hours. This also shows they are more sensitive to than other cells, which usually did off in about a day. Any changes in the cell can cause a lot of problems to the organism as a whole, so the cell needs to be eliminated very quickly so as it doesn't damage it. This process involves activating the Bax at the end of the chain, which stops energy coming from the mitochondria. Overall, it is important that these stem cells complete this process so that the organism can survive and grow.
