New Guidelines Planned on School Vending Machines

With the statistics of childhood obesity constantly increasing in the United States, the Obama administration is making an attempt on regulating snacks available to students in school vending machines. Restricting high sugar content snacks and other junk food will help keep kids healthier and their waistline smaller. However, the restrictions to be placed are receiving tremendous criticism from vendors and schools. Many vendors argue that their products are nutritional for students and should not be restricted. Schools fear that banning candy from schools will greatly affect the outcomes of fundraisers held through the schools. A national standard of nutritional qualifications for snacks are being debated.
