Melatonin and Sleep Problems: When This Hormone Might Work for You

Melatonin is a hormone made by the pineal gland in the brain and helps regulate sleep and wake cycles.  For those with insomnia, taking melatonin hormone could help readjust your "internal sleep cycle" which may be off kilter due to a number of reasons such as a disorder, time-zone changes, or menstration.  However, for those with hyperarousal insomnia (they don't feel tired) melatonin will do little good. Melatonin can also be used to treat SAD and other related sleep disorders. http://www.health.com/health/condition-article/0,,20189499,00.html
