Eye Size Determined by Running Speed
Maximum running speed is the largest determining factor in the size of an animals eye. Animals with larger eyes naturally have more visual acuity, and this is important when running at very high speeds. You can almost guarantee that animals such as the Cheetah or Horse have extremely large eyes. When you are traveling at high speeds, things have a tendency of blurring around you, and accuracy is greatly diminished. These fast animals have large eyes so they can avoid all of the obstacles around them that could potentially harm them. This recent discovery has given scientist more insight on the evolution of these fast mammals.
