Aspirin as Effective as Prescription Warfarin for Heart Failure Patients

The double-blind 10-year study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, which consisted of 2,305 patients in 11 different countries, found no statistically significant difference between the effectiveness of the two drugs.
Studies have found that aspirin may be just as effective as more expensive medications, like Warfarin, at preventing heart attacks and stroke. The study was very large, consisting of over 2000 participants. They found that there was a slight difference between the two medications, but they were not statistical different. However, it was found that Warfarin was more effective for patients who were on the medication for more than 4 years. This could be very beneficial to people, since aspirin is over-the-counter, while Warfarin has to be prescribed by a doctor and is much more expensive.
