Different Evolution of Upright Walking?

Researchers have found a 3.4 million year old fossil of a foot from an unknown hominid. This fossil was found in Ethopia. Surprisingly, they found that this fossil lived around the same time as Australopithecus afarensis. This is surprising because this is the first time scientists have proof of another species different from Australopithecus afarensis that was living around that time. However, this new species had a grasping toe and didn’t have an arch in their foot. Although this allowed for walking, it couldn’t allow for walking long distances. This shows that they probably still spent a lot of their time in trees. Because of lack of fossils, this new species is not allowed to have their own name yet.
