What Can "Brain Freezes" Tell Us About Migraines?
http://www.wfmj.com/story/17657059/ice-cream-headaches-might-offer-clues-to-migraines
Brain freezes occur when cold food or drink causes an increase in blood flow to a certain part of the brain. This increased blood flow increases pressure in the brain, causing pain and discomfort. The brain is sensitive to pressure and temperature, so as a defense mechanism it causes blood vessels to vary their size. The symptoms of brain freeze are similar to those of more serious headache-like conditions, such as migraines, and may give a key to their treatment.
