Macrophages play a very important role in the immune system.
They are organisms that protect you from infections and regulate the
development of inflammation in tissue. Dr. Christian Schulz who studied at King’s
College in London did research with his colleagues investigating the
development of macrophages by using cell markers to trace the different paths
of these different immune cells. They found evidence suggesting they are able
to survive and regenerate in the organs over a long period of time.
