New Melanoma Drug May Extend Survival

Melanoma that spreads is almost always fatal, but scientists found a new drug that supposedly can double the chance of survival for those with only skin melanoma.  Half the people with melanoma have this cancer due to a mutation in the BRAF protein; this drug, Zelboraf, blocks this mutation and prevents the melanoma from developing. They are in process of trials at this moment, but so far they have shown positive results. However, for those who have already developed melanoma, their chances decrease dramatically because some tumors have become resistant when given Zelboraf. http://news.health.com/2012/02/22/new-melanoma-drug-may-extend-survival/
