Genes May Explain Why Some People Turn Their Noses Up at Pork

Have you ever found yourself not liking the smell of pork?  The reason could be that you have two functional copies of the gene that is linked to an odor receptor that detects androstenone.  Androstenon is common in pork.  About 70% of people have these two functional copies.  The other 30% have one or no functional copies of the gene.  They are able to tolerate the scent of androstenone better.
