Brain's Dopamine Levels May Explain Why Some Are "Slackers" and Others "Go-Getters"

Using a PET scan, scientists were able to delve deeper into the brain to find out more about people's motivation levels. "Go-getters" who worked harder to accomplish goals were found to have higher levels of dopamine being released into the brain. The dopamine was found to be released into the striatum and ventromedial prefrontal cortex, both are involved with reward and motivation. "Slackers" on the other hand had a greater release of dopamine into anterior insula, which is related with emotion and self-awareness. They concluded that dopamine is key in the reward center and for driving people to succeed and it does matter where the dopamine is being released.
