A New Way to Utilize Old Cancer Drugs

Azacitidine, a drug that helps strip c methyl groups off of DNA, was developed decades ago, but it was too toxic to use in high doses, but researchers found that this drug, when used in combination with chemotherapy, helped to make tumors more responsive to chemotherapy treatment. The drug also has been seen to help patients with lung cancer. When used in combination with the drug entinostat they helped stop or reverse tumor growth in some lung cancer patients who didn't respond well to treatment.
