Teenagers prefer drinks with caffeine even when they are unaware their drink contains caffeine. Teens age 12-17 ranked their favorite drinks out of a group of concocted drinks made by the experimenters. They were then asked to come back in a try their 4th ranked drink again. Half the group got the normal drink, while the other half drank the drink with caffeine unknowingly added to it. Ratings for the placebo group remained the same, while those in the caffeine group continued to rank the drink better. Doctors suggest this preference has something to do with taste preference. I believe this article reflects much about the obesity problem in the country as well as our biological role as a consumer.
