Sniffer Dogs can be Used to Detect Lung Cancer

As study in Germany is finding a new way to detect the often hard to identify disease lung cancer. Sniffer dogs are being trained to sense volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in exhaled breaths. 220 volunteers with lung cancer, COPD, and and tobacco users were the participants in this study. Sniffer dogs identified those with and without these identifiers over 70% of the time. As lung cancer is often caught too late due to its lack of symptoms, this is a great new method that could save many lives.
