Obesity problem in America

This article talks about how the obesity problem in America may be very underestimated because we use the BMI system. The BMI system at times can misrepresent a person's health and weight. This is a problem for bodybuilders and women because according to the BMI system, they are considered overweight. For bodybuilders it would pose problems because of their muscle mass and for women as women get older they lose muscle mass at a quicker rate than men who age. Some suggestions to fixing the BMI system include lowering the cutoff for obesity and/or testing for the blood hormone leptin because leptin is associated with body fat percentage. Measuring leptin would give patients an idea of their risk for disease.
